Depending on your preference, your planned seaming can become part of the garment design or be invisible. During the 2-hour demo session you’ll see many different ways for seaming and will be able to practice on your own after class while viewing the recording or following the handout.

October 13        Clasped Warp and Clasped Weft Scarf    MAFA    Zoom
7 - 9 pm Eastern time - This class features clasped warp and clasped weft, two engaging techniques that create lively patterns dancing across the cloth. You’ll gain tips for weaving these effects, learn how to control the patterns, and see just how easy they are to achieve.
During the session, we’ll cover successful warping for clasped warp, loom setup for these techniques, maintaining good warp tension, clasping the weft threads while weaving, and general weaving tips to support your success.
This is a demonstration-based tutorial. I’ll share a PowerPoint presentation, demonstrate how to create the clasps, and discuss the materials I like to use. Questions and comments are encouraged throughout.
The class is designed for instruction, demonstration, and discussion. Afterward, you can create your scarf at your own pace, using the recording as a helpful guide.

December 10        Phoenix Top                    MAFA    Zoom
7 - 9 pm Eastern time - This session focuses on weaving cloth with a purpose—turning your handwoven fabric
This session focuses on weaving with purpose—transforming your handwoven fabric into a beautiful, wearable garment. There’s nothing quite like the satisfaction of wearing something you’ve made yourself, and this tutorial will guide you through every step. You’ll learn how to put on a long warp (220") on a rigid heddle loom, weave fabric that combines plain weave with touches of clasped weft, and sew the finished panels into a flattering, easy-to-wear top. The garment is designed for comfort and versatility—perfect on its own or layered over a long-sleeve shirt. If you’ve been weaving scarves and towels and are ready to create something truly wearable, this is an ideal next step. During the session, we’ll cover:
Warping successfully for a long warp, Setting up the loom for this project, Weaving tips for smooth, consistent results Simple sewing techniques to assemble your garment.
The top is woven in two panels and sewn together horizontally, so a 12" weaving width is all you need. This class focuses on instruction and demonstration; participants will complete their garments afterward using the recorded session as a guide. Designed for adventurous beginners and experienced weavers alike, this interactive online class offers plenty of opportunity for questions, discussion, and connection—all from the comfort of your home.

2027

April 1 - 4        CNCH                        in person, Redwood City, CA
2.5 day class - Expand your weaving skills by learning how to create two layers of cloth on a rigid heddle loom. In this workshop, you’ll explore double-heddle weaving and discover how the layers can be connected—or kept separate—to produce fabric that is twice the width of your loom, as well as tubes and pockets within the cloth.  Participants will weave a sampler while exploring the many creative possibilities this technique offers. You’ll learn how to warp the loom and thread two heddles, then weave at double the sett of the heddle used, opening the door to a wide range of beautiful patterns made possible by the extra heddle.  As you work, you’ll practice manipulating two heddles with confidence and see how magically two distinct layers of cloth—each in a different color—can emerge on the loom. Along the way, you’ll experiment with connecting and separating the layers to create pockets, tubes, and other intriguing structures.  This workshop is designed for weavers who already have some experience with the rigid heddle loom and are ready to move on to the next level of skill and creative exploration.  More information as it becomes available.
